Faiszer Mustapha commends new Hajj Committee

MP and Former Minister Faiszer Mustapha said on Sunday said the new Hajj Committee appointed by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has done a splendid job by obtaining an enhanced Hajj quota for Sri Lankan Muslims during their visit to Saudi Arabia.

He made this remark whilst speaking to the press to welcome  the five-member Hajj committee which returned to Colombo on Sunday.

The Hajj Committee was led by Marjan  Azmi signed an agreement with Hajj and Umrah Deputy Minister Dr. Abdul Sulaiman Mashat In Makkah for the new increased quota. Marjan Azmi, who signed on behalf of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also in-charge of Muslim Affairs in his ministry.  The new prime minister delegated a high-powered team to represent the country on his behalf. Besides the chairman Marjan Azmi, the other members of the visiting team comprises Mohamed Ahkam Sabry Uwise, Seyed Ahamed Naqeeb Mowlana,Ahmed Fuward and Thanga Udayar Abdul Sathar. Sri Lankan Ambassador in Riyadh Mohammed Azmi, Consul General A.W.A.Salam and Abdul Cader Mashoor Mowlana also took part in bilateral talks held in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. Mustapha said the prime minister proved right by including professionals only in the new Hajj Committee since this is the first time a Hajj Committee comprises only professionals and not politicians.

“The Committee did an excellent job without any politicians,” Mustapha stressed.

Congratulating Marjan Azmi and his team for their encouraging performance, Mustapha hoped that they would formulate an attractive Hajj for the Lankan pilgrims in the coming months.
