Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the free distribution of mud fertiliser or TSP fertiliser to farmers for the Yala season has now reached its final stage.
The Department of Agrarian Development requests all the farmers who have not received TSP fertiliser yet to get the required fertiliser before 10 April. Thereafter the TSP fertiliser stock at the agricultural service centres will be called back to the main warehouses.
Minister Amaraweera has inquired about the progress of distribution of TSP fertiliser and other fertilisers from the two government-owned fertiliser companies and the Department of Agrarian Development.
Lanka Fertiliser Company and Colombo Commercial Fertiliser Company have distributed 36,000 metric tons of TSP fertiliser to all agricultural service centres. So far, TSP fertiliser have been distributed to farmers in 38 agricultural areas.
By Thursday, 22,644 metric tons of TSP fertiliser have been distributed free of charge to 677,139 farmers.
Agriculture Minister said in addition the free mud fertiliser, the government has taken steps to credit Rs. 20,000 per hectare and Rs. 40,000 per 02 hectares to farmers’ accounts as a non-returnable amount for the purchase of other types of fertilisers or seeds and pesticides in the Yala season.
