A five-member expert committee has been appointed to probe the young investor and entrepreneur Dinesh Schaffter’s mysterious death on 15 December 2022.

The panel comprises Prof. Asela Mendis, Prof. D.C.R. Perera, Prof. D.N.P. Fernando, Dr. Siva Subramaniam and Dr. Rohan Ruwanpura.

The expert panel is to conclude the cause of Dinesh Shafter’s death and submit it to the court. After that, the inquest was ordered to be convened on 14 March.

The move follows the Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya on 17 February ordering the appointment of an investigation panel comprising five judicial and forensic medicine experts to determine the cause of death of Dinesh Schaffter.

Since there were contradictions in the post-mortem report submitted regarding the death of Dinesh Schaffter, the Magistrate requested fresh investigation.

Dinesh Schaffter was found unconscious and tied inside his vehicle at the General Cemetery in Borella on 15 December evening and was rushed to the ICU of the National Hospital in Colombo. He was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.
