Former Senior DIG arrested in connection with Lasantha’s murder

Former Senior DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara was arrested in connection with the investigation into the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunge.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara told the Daily FT that the CID had arrested the former DIG and produced him before the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate Courts.

The suspect was arrested for allegedly concealing evidence pertaining to the investigation of the slain Wickramatunge. 

Nanayakkara was the Senior DIG Western Province (South) overseeing Nugegoda and Mt. Lavinia at the time Wickramatunge was killed. He has been remanded till 16 February when he will be produced before the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate Court.

A former IP of the Mt. Lavinia police was also arrested in relation to the murder of the former Sunday Leader editor.
