Four more candidates place election deposits; total now at 10

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka (ECSL) has confirmed that 10 candidates in total have placed election deposits to date to contest the Presidential election scheduled for 21 September. 

Four candidates placed their deposits yesterday including, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, K.K Piyadasa, Siritunga Jayasuriya and Ajantha de Zoysa.

Candidates who placed deposits earlier are President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sajith Premadasa, Sarath Keerthirathne, Oshala Herath, A.S.P Liyanage, P.W.S.K Bandaranayake and Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe. 

According to the Election Commission, nominations will be accepted until 15 August. Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake has advised candidates to submit cash deposits early to avoid potential last-minute issues. The Commission has officially announced that the Presidential Election will take place on 21 September 2024.

The ECLS said it has received over 125 complaints regarding violations of election laws since announcing the Presidential election. According to the ECSL, these complaints include issues related to appointments, transfers, and promotions. The Commission has emphasised that any complaints or concerns about the election can be submitted to the complaint division established within the Election Commission.
