The Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa yesterday announced that fuel distributors have agreed to the new commission formula presented by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).

The decision follows discussions aimed at addressing concerns within the fuel distribution sector.

“An agreement was reached to implant the formula introduced by the CPC. Work will proceed in accordance with that agreement,” he added.

Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing Dr. Jayatissa said that the new formula has already been implemented and that further discussions are scheduled for 18 March.

He said the next round of discussions will focus on addressing additional proposals from the fuel distributors.

The Minister also reassured the public that there is no fuel shortage and that the supply remains stable.

In a separate development, Petroleum Distributors’ Association Vice President Kusum Sandanayake was questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following a complaint regarding an alleged plot to destabilise the fuel distribution network.

Sandanayake, speaking to the press, confirmed that the distributors had decided to suspend any disruptive actions and are seeking to resolve the dispute through legal channels.

Meanwhile, another faction of the distributors and shed owners claimed that they never closed down their filling stations, alleging a few distributors of receiving undue publicity, which led to panic buying among motorists.
