Funeral of Dr. Lester James Peiris on Wednesday with State patronage

President Maithripala Sirisena has issued directives to conduct the funeral of acclaimed filmmaker Dr. Lester James Peiris with State patronage.

Accordingly, the funeral of Dr. Peiris will be held on Wednesday (2) at Independence Square from 4 p.m. onwards.

Internationally-acclaimed Sri Lankan film producer and film director Dr. Lester James Peiris passed away on Sunday night while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo. He was 99 years old at the time of his death.

On 5 April, Dr. Peiris celebrated his 99th birthday with the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at his residence.

During his last meeting with Peiris, President Sirisena commended the internationally-acclaimed film producer and film director for rendering an immeasurable service to Sri Lankan film industry. (Colombopage)
