In a unanimous decision, Member of the Parliament Gamini Lokuge has been elected as the new Chairman of the Committee on Banking and Financial Services for the Fifth Session of the Ninth Parliament.
The nomination of MP Lokuge was put forward by MP Kokila Gunawardena and seconded by MP Udaya Gammanpila during the committee’s inaugural meeting for session convened on 1 April. Lokuge previously chaired this committee during the fourth session of the Ninth Parliament.
Addressing the assembly, the newly appointed Chair expressed gratitude to all MPs for their unwavering support during the previous session. He stressed the importance of continued collaboration and support from all members in the future endeavours of the committee.
hlighting the committee’s focus areas, the Chair underscored its dedication to addressing issues within the cooperative sector.
He also announced plans to submit a comprehensive report containing recommendations for advancing and resolving crises in the cooperative financial sector to Parliament in the near future.
State Minister Anupa Pasqual and Members of Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa,Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, B.Y.G. Mr. Ratnasekara, Sampath Athukorala, Karunadasa Kodituvakku, and Yadamini Gunawardena were among those present during the committee meeting.
