Settling the dispute between the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) and Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), the SLLRDC yesterday resumed its operations.
SLLRDC Chairman Roshan Gunewardena yesterday told Daily FT that CMC had paid it Rs. 100 million from the outstanding dues by cheque.
“We have already commenced receiving garbage from the CMC and started operations,” he added.
He said operations would continue throughout the day to complete the task, adding that the SLLRDC would function as usual and accept garbage from the CMC.
Waste accumulated by the CMC is dumped at the Kerawalapitiya garbage dump, which comes under the purview of the SLLRDC, which rejected garbage for two days since last Saturday (6) due to arrears amounting to Rs. 157 million owed to the corporation by the CMC.
However, Gunawardena also said that the CMC still owed SLLRDC
Rs. 57 million for
services provided.
The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development issuing a statement said that operations at the Karawalapitiya garbage dump had been resumed by the SLLRDC after Rs. 100 million of the due payments had been settled.
The statement further noted that managing payments and preventing an exceeding of credit limits was the responsibility of both parties. (NS)
