The Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe yesterday said the community of over 150 people in Ginthupitiya have been cleared of COVID-19.
This was following PCR tests carried out and steps being taken to send 154 people, including the original suspected patient, home.
The suspected patient, a sea marshall and who had returned from abroad, had originally tested positive during the 14-day self-quarantine. However, during hospitalisation, 5 PCR tests done had confirmed as COVID-negative.
Dr. Jasinghe said that nevertheless, as a precautionary measure, 154 people who were traced to have made contact with the suspect were sent for quarantine and tests at Kandakadu quarantine centre.
