Govt. Analyst’s Dept. says suspects arrested with heroin not permanent employees

The Government Analyst’s Department says it has launched an investigation into reports that its officials are involved in drug trafficking.

Recently, the Police arrested two laboratory employees of the Government Analyst’s Department with heroin.

One of the suspects was arrested with 18.7 g of heroin on Sunday and the other employee was arrested with 15 g of heroin and 25 g of Ice. The arrests were made by the Athurugiriya Police.

However, the Analyst’s Department said the men were not permanent employees.

A spokesman for the Department said the institution completely denies the reports that employees of the Department were involved in drug trafficking.

Due to this, the Analyst’s Department has taken steps to conduct an investigation into the incident and to inform the Police.

It was reported that no one would be allowed to enter the Department’s evidence storage facilities as they were highly secured.

In such a situation, investigations have been launched into find how the persons in question got the drugs and whether they were connected to an outside drug network.

The Government Analyst’s Department further stated that steps will be taken to conduct a speedy investigation into the incident and take necessary action.
