Govt. cancels 1 May Public and Bank holiday

In view of Vesak, the Government Information Department yesterday called off the Public and Bank holidays set for 1 May.

The Government announced 7 May as the alternative holiday to 1 May.

President Maithripala Sirisena recently declared 7 May as a public holiday to mark International Labour Day.

All the official May Day events will be held on 7 May this year instead of 1 May, as a result of the Vesak week.
