Govt. expresses confidence of meeting LP gas demand by next week

The Government yesterday expressed confidence that the Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) shortage will be resolved promptly over the next week.

“The gas issue will be resolved promptly. The Letters of Credit (LCs) have been issued to release shipments that have arrived in Sri Lanka,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman Dr. Ramesh Pathirana told journalists at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

He said State-run Litro Gas Ltd. has notified that the supply will be met within the next 7 to 10 days.

“Although the average daily demand is around 85,000 to 95,000 cylinders, following various shortcomings and distribution constraints over the past week the daily demand was soared to 100,000 to 125,000 cylinders. With new stocks of LPG being unloaded, the demand will be met soon,” he said.
