Govt. freezes assets of 15 entities and 210 persons linked to terrorism

The Government has initiated measures to freeze all financial assets and economic resources belonging to 15 organisations and 210 individuals suspected of involvement in terrorist and extremist activities.

The announcement was made via a gazette notification issued on 3 June by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne under the authority granted by the United Nations Regulations No. 1 of 2012.

The order mandates the freezing of all funds, financial assets, and economic resources owned, held, or controlled by any natural or legal person, group, or entity designated under regulation 4 of these regulations.

Among the designated organisations are the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC), World Tamil Movement (WTM), Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), World Tamil Relief Fund (WTRF), Headquarters Group (HQ Group), National Thowheed Jama’ath (NTJ), Jama’athe Millathu Ibraheem (JMI), Willayath As Seylani (WAS), National Council of Canadian Tamil (NCCT), Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO), Darul Adhar Ath’thabawiyya, Sri Lanka Islamic Student Movement (SLISM), and Save the Pearls. The order also applies to the assets of 210 persons identified by law enforcement for their involvement in terrorist and extremist activities.
