Govt. revokes condition on sugar and rice purchases via Sathosa

The condition enforced on consumers to add several other items if purchasing essential items like sugar and rice has been removed, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena told the Parliament.

Last week he said at least five more items should be purchased if lower prices for rice and sugar are wanted from Sathosa.

“There are about 15 essential items that is Rs. 1,000 cheaper at Sathosa compared to other retail outlets,” Gunawardena said.

He said following the heavy criticism, the condition was revoked immediately.
