Govt. to expand vocational training to remote areas

• Focus on increasing youth interest in vocational training and skills development
• Dr. Arambepola instructs officials to submit report on regional disparities

State Minister of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation Dr. Seetha Arambepola yesterday said the Ceylon German Technical Training Institute’s services would be expanded to remote areas of the country.

Dr. Arambepola expressed these views during a visit to Ceylon German Technical Training Institute (CGTTI) in Ratmalana. During the visit, the State Minister commented on issues pertaining to the quality of vocational training and pointed out the importance of expanding such institutes to remote areas.

“We have been given a number of specific goals related to skills development and vocational training. Therefore a special attention has been paid to this institution. We must achieve those goals. Therefore, this institution will be expanded to remote areas of the country,” she added.

Dr. Arambepola pointed out the importance of increasing the demand to enrol for vocational training in the country and increasing the reach of institutions such as CGTTI. She also noted the importance of skills development for school leavers to improve their ability meet standards of the job market.

The State Minister also instructed officials to submit a report on the regional disparities in various provinces of the country, as well as the possibility of revising and applying certain policies to address such challenges.

She noted that the Government would take necessary measures to improve vocational training to improve the skill levels of the youth to meet modern day requirements.
