  • Questions why Muslim extremists would give up their lives to appoint Sinhala Buddhist leader
  • Claims Channel 4 source is corrupt individual who fled SL and sought political asylum abroad
  • Says SLPP had secured its victory long before Easter Sunday attack

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage accused the Channel 4 documentary on the Easter Sunday attack yesterday of attempting to destabilise the country.

“Why would nine Muslim extremists give up their lives to appoint a Sinhala Buddhist leader?” he asked.

He asserted that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) had already assured its victory long before the attack, citing the party’s ability to secure 80% of the votes in the 2018 Local Government polls.

The MP claimed the source for the Channel 4 documentary is a person with a corrupt background who fled the country and sought political asylum in Switzerland.

“The individual who earned a salary of Rs. 6,000 in 2017 received Rs. 70 million from 2018 - 2020. He had further made Rs. 50 million by selling a house in Dehiwala and an additional Rs. 14 million by selling a vehicle,” the MP alleged.

Defending current intelligence Chief Major General Suresh Sallay, Aluthgamage claimed the officer was in Malaysia and was not residing in Sri Lanka during the time of the attack.

He underscored the importance of imposing the severest possible penalties on any group engaged in efforts to destabilise the country through the dissemination of false propaganda
