Gully bowsers have been distributed to areas affected by fatal illnesses and water bowsers to drought stricken areas, under the leadership of Minister of City Planning and Water Supply Rauff Hakeem.

When the dengue epidemic spread rapidly in Muttur and Kinniya areas of the Trincomalee district these Gully bowsers were distributed to Muttur and Kinniya Pradesheeya Sabhas and Urban Councils to keep the areas clean and tidy with the objective of completely eradicating the dengue epidemic. The Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply spent around Rs. 15 million for this purpose.

Around 15 persons died by the dengue epidemic in these areas recently. When the Minister who is also the leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress made a tour of the above two areas it was observed that these areas were severely affected by sanitation problems.

In addition six more water bowsers were also distributed to supply drinking water to drought affected areas of Puthalam, Kurunegala, Moneragala, Galle, Kalutara and Kandy districts.

These bowsers were provided to the Regional offices and service centres of the Water Supply and Drainage Board. These bowsers were distributed upon requests made by the political authorities of the relevant areas.
