The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) yesterday summoned top officials of the energy sector to inquire on steps taken at the institutional level to end the fuel and gas shortages.

Power and Energy Ministry Additional Secretary Chaminda Hettiarachchi, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman Sumith Wijesinghe and Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Rathnayake were summoned before the HRCSL.

Pointing out that the fuel and gas shortages have caused a lot of challenges to people in their day-to-day lives, the HRCSL has called on officials to expedite the measures taken to curb the issues, whilst insisting to consider the matter as ‘an emergency’.
