City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Minister Rauff Hakeem launched a series of rural water supply schemes in the Kegalle district during the weekend.
Among the projects launched included, Rs. 57 million worth Ganepola community water supply and sanitation projects, funded by the World Bank, which would benefit 457 families in 10 Grama Sevaka divisions.
The Minister also inaugurated Rs. 73 million World Bank-funded Hakbellawa community water supply project which is expected to cater to 486 families in 10 Grama Sevaka divisions. Hakeem also commissioned the extended water supply scheme along the Ruwanwella-Wendala road.
The Minister also initiated a community water supply project in Bulathkohupitiya at the cost of Rs. 483 million, which are also funded by the World Bank and expected to cater to 2,000 people in the targeted areas. Parliamentarians Dr. Thusitha Wijemanna, Sujith Sanjaya Perera, World Bank Project Director N.U.K. Ranatunga and several others participated at the events.
