Former MP Dr. Harsha de Silva tendered his resignation from the post of UNP Treasurer yesterday. 

After handing in his resignation letter, Dr. Silva said he felt it was necessary to resign from the post he held in the UNP before signing nomination papers to contest under the SJB.

“I have handed over my resignation to Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. I felt it was the right thing to do before I sign nomination papers. I wanted to talk to the UNP Leader personally and inform him of my decision. He requested me to reconsider, but I explained that I must stick to my decision. I must say I do not have any disagreements with Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he said. 

Dr. Silva also said that he had not criticised the UNP Leader in the past and would not do so in the future.
