The Institute of Information and Communication Technology (ICTA) and the Ministry of Health have taken steps to introduce an internationally recognised digital Coronavirus Vaccination Certificate (Smart Vaccination Certificate) Card for Sri Lankan citizens going abroad after receiving both doses of the COVID vaccines in Sri Lanka.

The symbolic introduction of the digital vaccination card took place at the Ministry of Health.

This new technology will help to show the world the accuracy of the vaccination program in Sri Lanka, Ministry of Health said. As a first step, the digital vaccination cards will be distributed to Sri Lankan athletes traveling for the Tokyo Olympics.

The Minister of Health presented the first COVID Smart Vaccination Certificate to Sri Lanka Gymnastics Association Secretary Kapila Jeewantha who received it on behalf of the Sri Lankan team leaving for the Tokyo Olympics in Japan this month.

Sri Lankans will soon be able to download the application from the Ministry of Health website for this internationally recognised Smart Digital Vaccine Certificate prepared by the Ministry of Health and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) under the State Ministry of Digital Technology and Entrepreneurship Development.

This digital vaccination card contains the name, age, identity card number, date of vaccination, type of vaccine and batch number of the vaccine received by the card holder. The digital vaccination cards are issued by the Government and will have a QR code unique to Sri Lanka that will provide access to the vaccination related information of the cardholder from any country in the world and the information can be verified through the website of the Ministry of Health.
