Hejaaz Hizbullah denied bail by Puttalam High Court

The Puttalam High Court yesterday rejected the bail application filed by the detained lawyer Hejaaz Hizbullah. The bail appeal of the human rights lawyer Hizbullah was taken up before Puttalam High Court Judge Kumari Abeyratne yesterday.

On 14 April 2020, Hizbullah was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

Hizbullah was being investigated for allegedly aiding and abetting the Easter Sunday bombers and for engaging in activities deemed detrimental to the religious harmony among communities.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General recently informed the Appeals Court that the department would not object to the revision application put forward by the incarcerated lawyer seeking to be released on bail.

However, Hizbullah’s bail request was rejected by the High Court yesterday for the second time.
