State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe yesterday noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath has assured IMF’s full assistance in restoring debt sustainability to Sri Lankan officials during a discussion in Marrakech, Morocco.

Taking to ‘X’ he said that Gopinath appreciated the progress Sri Lanka has made on several fronts.

“We also discussed Sri Lanka’s ongoing work on anti-corruption and governance improvement,” he added.

The statement from the State Minister comes amidst concerns over the Government not meeting its revenue targets to secure the second tranche of the IMF’s $ 2.9 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) to Sri Lanka being delayed.

The officials had met on the sidelines of the ongoing Annual Meetings of the IMF-World Bank Group in Marrakech, Morocco. Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena and Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe also participated in the discussions.
