IUSF Bhikkhu Federation Convener Venerable Galwewa Siridhamma thero was produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate T.N.L. Mahawatte from the remand custody yesterday and was released on a Rs. 500,000 personal bail on each surety with two sureties.
Before the thero was remanded, he was detained for 89-days under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. He and IUSF Convener Wasantha Mudfalige were detained under the Prevention of the Terrorist Act.
Even though the thero was produced and released on bail, IUSF Convener Wasantha Mudalige was nor produced in court yesterday. The CID told the Magistrate that they were further investigating Wasantha Mudalige and would inform court over their progress on the investigation on 12 December.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing for the Attorney General submitted to the court that the Attorney General will not object to the release of the suspect on bail.
Venerable Galwewa Siridhamma thero was also ordered to appear at the CID once in every month.
In addition, he was prevented from travelling overseas and was barred from making any comment to the media over ongoing investigations of the CID.
The Magistrate also warned the thero that if he conducts himself aggressively, his bail will be cancelled and will be remanded once again.
