The Attorney General yesterday informed the CID Director that there is insufficient evidence to proceed against anybody in respect of a complaint lodged by MP Mangala Samaraweera pertaining to a purported coup shortly after the Presidential Election of January 2015. The complaint was lodged by Samaraweera, alleging there was an attempt to stage a coup by loyalists of the then President Mahinda Rajapaksa after the victory of the UNF candidate Maithripala Sirisena in the January 2015 Presidential Poll.
However, after nearly five years, the AG›s Department said yesterday that there is insufficient evidence to proceed with the case.
