The interim report of the Presidential Commission appointed to probe frauds and corruption committed in State entities from 2015 to 2018 was handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.
The five-member Commission, headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyrathne, was appointed by the President on 17 January to investigate allegations of corruption by the current Government.
The Commission is mandated to probe into alleged acts of corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust, criminal misappropriation of property, and abuse of power. The Chairman of the Commission, retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyrathne, handed over the interim report to the President. The rest of the members of the Commission were also present at the occasion.
The final report of the Commission will be submitted to the President six months from the appointment of the Commission.
