The committee appointed to formulate a suitable methodology to determine and identify national heritage of Sri Lanka has handed over its interim report to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Wednesday at his official residence in Wijerama.
The methodology proposed by the interim report will be published in the newspapers on the 8th for public consultation. At the request of State Minister of National Heritage, Performing Arts and Rural Art Promotion Vidura Wickramanayake, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs sought Cabinet approval to come up with a suitable methodology for the specific determination and identification of the national heritage of Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, an expert committee consisting of 16 experts was appointed to formulate a methodology to determine and identify the national heritage. The relevant committee consists of Prof. Induragare Dhammaratana Thero, Prof. Malani Edagama, Prof. Rohana P. Mahaliyanarachchi, Senior Professor Raj Somadeva, Prof. Yasanjali Jayathilaka, Prof. Mudiyanse Dissanayake, Dr. Mangala Katugampola, Dr. Janaki Jayawardena, Dr. T. Sanathanan, Senior Lecturer M.A.M. Yasir, Folklore Critic Mahinda Kumara Dalupotha, Secretary, Ministry of National Heritage, Performing Arts and Rural Artist Promotion, Directors General of the Department of Archaeology, National Archives, Museums and the Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
