The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) says it will strongly oppose the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

JHU General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka said that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution will cause instability in the country and pose a threat to democracy.

He said that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, which was submitted to Parliament by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) last week, proposes that the Executive Powers with the President be removed and transferred to the Prime Minister and the cabinet. Ranawaka said that the position of the JHU is that matters like national security should be in the hands of the President and so, the President must remain as the Executive President.
