Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday declared that his party won’t support the 2019 Budget, on the basis that it was not beneficial to the people and the country.

“The open economy introduced in 1978 has led the country to a debt trap, and a disparity between the exports and imports. Minister of Finance has further liberalised the economy. Not much of difference seen from the economic crisis we are heading towards. The total Government expense and the revenue differs widely. The disparity forces us to borrow money,” Dissanayake said.

MP Bimal Ratnayake was critical of the Budget, citing the absence of measures taken to develop the industrial and agriculture sectors.

“They have not taken any measures to develop the industrial and agriculture sectors. There are only a few benefits here and there,” he said, speaking to media.
