Japanese Ambassador Mizukoshi Hideaki joined the distribution of the emergency food package in collaboration with WFP Representative Abdur Rahim Siddiqui, in Ragala Watta during his official visit to the Central Province.
Ambassador Mizukoshi and Mizukoshi Mariko interacted with the beneficiaries and learned how the people in the region are affected by the economic crisis. During the event, Ambassador committed himself to continued support for the people in need as a true friend of Sri Lanka.
This food package is a part of the humanitarian assistance which amounts to $ 3.5 million that Japan has decided this year. During the past seven decades, Japan has been providing extensive support throughout the islands to help enhance peace and socioeconomic development in Sri Lanka, including livelihood improvement and empowerment of the people.
In this year itself, Japan has so far provided a total of approximately $ 45 million as grant assistance under immediate, mid- and long-term assistances, addressing the urgent needs while enhancing capacity and potentiality of the people of Sri Lanka for further growth.
