Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka in a statement expressed its cordial gratitude to all the valued friends of Sri Lanka for showing deep sympathy on the demise of former Prime Minister of Japan ABE Shinzo.
“The amount of warm messages we received speak loud and clear of the great legacy that former Prime Minister left behind for us, upon which, we renew our determination to continue to build our great friendship in the years to come,” the Japanese Embassy said.
Despite the current difficulties, many true friends of Japan, including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe (now Acting President), former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and Foreign Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris along with many other Ministers and Members of the Parliament, as well as students and citizens, while expressing their deep affection for Japan, kindly visited and signed the Book of Condolence.
“By receiving heartfelt consolation, we were deeply moved by the warmth and support of the people of Sri Lanka, and this event made us recall the strong bond of friendship that exist between Japan and Sri Lanka,” the Embassy said.
It also reiterated its sincere appreciation for the support extended to the people of Japan in this time of great sorrow. “Embraced and guided by the great spirit of Former Prime Minister Abe, we hope to continue to strengthen our friendship that will stand the test of time, through thick and thin,” the Japanese Embassy statement added.
