Two ships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Training Squadron, ‘JS KASHIMA’ and ‘JS SETOYUKI’ made a goodwill visit to the Colombo Port from 18-20 June 2021, as part of the Overseas Training Cruise by JMSDF.

The purpose of this overseas training cruise was to develop the seamanship and ship handling skills of officer trainees on board and to promote the international goodwill with the countries they visit. During the visit, a variety of events was organised, such as a virtual lecture to the trainees by Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area of the Sri Lanka Navy Rear Admiral Y.N. Jayarathne, as well as a goodwill exercise with the officers of the Sri Lankan Navy, which served to cultivate the trainees’ seamanship, while further promoting friendly relationships between Japan and Sri Lanka.
