A joint pre-dawn operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Police, Police Special Task Force and the Sri Lanka Army yesterday resulted in the arrest of at least 43 persons, including four females, in Sinhapura, Wellampitiya.
They were apprehended while in possession of drugs and weapons.
A combined team of 138 Police personnel and 200 Army personnel conducted the raid, during which 61 houses were searched and 196 persons of interest were searched.
The raid yielded various narcotic substances, including heroin and crystal methamphetamine (ICE), illicit alcohol, swords, and other weaponry, along with the seizure of 12 mobile phones. The Police said the raid was conducted on the directives of Western Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, Western Province DIG (South) Gayanga Marapana and Western Province South District Crime Division Superintendent of Police Lalith Abeysekara.
