From 5 to 7 November, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is holding a local training seminar on forensic science for prosecutors, at Hilton Colombo Residences.
The purpose of this project is to enhance the capability of Sri Lankan forensic science, and this local training marks the three-year project. As a part of the KOICA project, implemented by NFS (National Forensic Service), the training seminar is expected to strengthen the performance and efficiency of forensic science in Sri Lanka. The lectures will cover the forensic science technologies in Korea, illustrating DNA human identification, investigation system in the field of fire safety accidents, etc.
48 participants – prosecutors, government analysts, and from other relevant institutes – will participate in the seminar. Through the program, they will contribute to advance the efficiency of the judicial system by strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies and forensic science analysis institutes.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Heon Lee, KOICA Country Director Youn Hwa Kang, and Additional Solicitor General Priyantha Nawana were present to congratulate the opening of the training seminar. Ambassador Lee addressing the audience in his congratulatory speech said: “I hope that through the capacity building of the prosecutors in forensic science, the Attorney General can also enhance its efficiency on investigations and the judiciary system in Sri Lanka. The outcome of this program would strengthen not only the capacity of relevant organisations, but also the partnership and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Korea.”
Additional Solicitor General Priyantha said: “This program will bring enormous success in Sri Lanka’s judicial system,” emphasising importance of this training seminar and expressed the gratitude to Korea for the program and other support towards Sri Lanka.
