Kamal Amarasinghe appointed as Commissioner General of Motor Traffic

The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday has approved appointing Kamal Amarasinghe, as the Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT).

Speaking at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said Amarasinghe is a Special Grade Officer in Sri Lanka Administrative Service—currently serving as the Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, Transport, Housing and Construction of the North Western Provincial Council.

Amarasinghe replaces Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe, who is also a Special Grade Officer in Sri Lanka Administrative Service serving as the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic at present.

Dr. Jayatissa said Weerasinghe has submitted a request to release him from the duties of the post of Commissioner General of DMT so that he can serve in a different post in another field in the Government service.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
