After several weeks, the CPC stations started issuing fuel yesterday according to the last numbers on the number plates of the vehicles – Pic by Pradeep Pathirana
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera called the pilot project to issue fuel via the QR system as per the last digit of the vehicle’s license plate number was conducted successfully after it was tested at selected filling stations in Colombo yesterday.
“After initial technical issues, the fuel pass QR system was successfully tested today. The pilot project will continue before going national next week,” opined Wijesekara via a tweet. He was also of the view that the initiative will ease the fuel queues within the next few days once the distribution speeds up countrywide from Monday. Minister Wijesekara extended an appreciation to the fuel station owners who supported the initiative, the motorists who adopted and assisted, as well as the Tri-Forces, Police, and volunteers who helped to successfully execute the initiative.
He also noted that certain fuel stations did not adopt, whilst some motorists manipulated, falsified, and did not want the initiative implemented. However, the Minister affirmed that the fuel via QR system will be enforced countrywide, adding that three million motorists have registered for the fuel pass as of yesterday.
As per the new initiative, the Minister said the fuel quota for bikes was Rs. 1,500, for three-wheels Rs. 2,000, and other vehicles Rs. 7,000. Accordingly, the last digit of the vehicle number plate ending with 0, 1, 2 can refuel on Tuesday and Saturday, the last digits of the number plate ending with 3, 4, 5 can refuel on Thursday and Sunday, while the last digits of the vehicle number plate ending with 6, 7, 8, 9 can refill fuel on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
