SJB Deputy General Secretary Mujibur Rahman

  • Says public has had to face consequences of misguided decisions made by Minister Rambukwella
  • Accuses Govt. of failing to provide solutions to issues in health sector despite concerns raised
  • Claims Opposition was forced to bring forward an NCM against Rambukwella as a result

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Deputy General Secretary Mujibur Rahman yesterday said a crucial moment has emerged for all Members of Parliament to make a choice whether to protect Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella, who is confronting numerous accusations, or prioritise the well-being of innocent patients across the nation.

During a press conference, Rahman emphasised that the public has borne the consequences of misguided choices made by the Minister and officials within the Ministry of Health. He alleged that individuals seeking medical treatment at hospitals have tragically paid with their lives due to the decisions undertaken by these authorities.

“The healthcare system is facing a challenging situation due to issues related to substandard imported medications, insufficient drug supplies, a shortage of medical equipment, and an inadequate number of healthcare professionals, including doctors,” he noted.

“However, we as members of the Opposition and those in the healthcare sector have consistently highlighted these issues. Despite our efforts, the Government is yet to implement any effective solutions to address these problems.”

Rahman accused the Minister of avoiding the concerns raised and deflecting by making various statements. He said therefore the opposition was forced to bring forward a no-confidence motion against Minister Rambukwella which will be taken up for debate next week.

“Hence, the 225 Members of Parliament now bear a weighty and significant responsibility,” he said.
