The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka last week held a handing-over ceremony of a fully-fledged IT Room worth approximately Rs. 6 million to Kahatana Kanishta Vidyalaya in Gampaha District.

Kahatana Kanishata Vidyalaya is a rural school in Gampaha District that educates about 375 students from vulnerable families in the area. The establishment of a fully-fledged IT room aims to ease classroom congestion and improve the IT learning facilities of the school while allowing the students to experience a great learning environment.

The event was graced by the presence of Korean Ambassador Miyon Lee, KOICA Country Director Kim MyungJin. The Ambassador handed over the establishment to the students of the Kahatana Kanishta Vidyalaya. At the ceremony, Kahatana Kanishta Vidyalaya Gampaha Principal Amila Udayanga Balasooriya and the staff highly appreciated the establishment and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Korean Government and the supporting team for organising this great donation amid the crisis situation in Sri Lanka.

Adding to this, the Government of Korea believes that this project will be helpful in enhancing the learning abilities of the students while creating a better educational environment for the school. Education is a strong area of cooperation between the two countries. The government of Korea has invested in the Sri Lankan educational sector through the KOICA projects and has allocated 47% of the total assistance to the education sector from 2021-2025.
