The Kuliyapitiya Police Division was placed under isolation from 12 midnight yesterday until further notice.
According to the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), isolation was imposed given the rise of COVID-19 patients detected from Kuliyapitiya.
On Wednesday, Kuliyapitiya Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Dr. Uthpala Sankalpa raised concerns of a third wave originating from the area with 190 patients detected within the past 20 days and a 10% positive rate from PCR tests.
On Wednesday, the NOCPCO announced that Thiththawelgala Grama Niladhari Division in the Ganewatte Divisional Secretariat, Kurunegala District had been placed under isolation.
Ganewatte MOH Dr. Narada Ranasinghe yesterday said 163 COVID-19 positive persons were detected from the 729 PCR tests performed in the area. “As a percentage, it is close to 22%. In our area, one in five persons are patients so we have isolated the Thiththawelyaya Grama Niladhari Division and three villages in other Grama Niladhari Divisions.”
