Wijerathne, a resident of Badulla, will follow the diploma course at MASCOM under the tutelage of well-known Indian academic Prof. Thomas Oomen.

The Lakshman Kadirgamar Scholarship is offered each year to a young Sri Lankan journalist by MASCOM owners Malayala Manorama in memory of the late Sri Lankan Foreign Minister.

The other sponsors of the scholarship are the Sri Lankan Press Institute and the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka, which jointly partner the annual Journalism Awards for Excellence program, now in its 20th year, and SriLankan Airlines, which provides the air ticket for the scholar.
