Lankan born author Lukman receives top literature award in London

Lukman Harees, a UK based writer, author and a media political commentator of Sri Lankan heritage received the “Outstanding Contribution to Literature” during the BRISLA Awards 2023 held on Friday 20 October, at the Caledonian Club in London. 

This award ceremony is being organised by The BRISLA, a reputed organisation consisting of UK based leading professionals and intellectuals, to facilitate co-operation between the UK and Sri Lanka on economics, education, environmental factors and health affairs.

Lord Naseby PC, Venerable Seelawimala Thero, Former MP Nirj Deva DL, India and Indian Ocean Directorate from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office Director Ben Mellor, and Yvonne Ridley were amongst the high dignitaries attending this ceremony.

Lukman has been a regular writer to many Sri Lankan and international news journals and gets regular invites for TV/radio panel discussions on Sri Lankan socio- political developments including BBC Berkshire and for discussions organised by Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK. He is also an author of seven books in English and Sinhala on sociological themes and a human rights activist, involved in human rights advocacy work in the UK. He is also closely involved in projects of diaspora groups to promote mutual understanding and social harmony in Sri Lanka.

Lukman has also been the recipient of many awards for outstanding services to the Sri Lankan community in the field of media and social services.
