A high-level delegation from Sri Lanka, led by Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment R.P.A. Wimalaweera is currently in Indonesia for an in-depth four-day study of the country’s social security system.
The delegation specialises in understanding Indonesia’s Unemployment Insurance through its social protection arm, B.P.J.S. Ketenagakerjaan. This initiative is taken per the directives of Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara in Sri Lanka.
The visit is organised with the assistance of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with ILO Indonesia, and is generously supported by the Japanese Government. The Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment in Sri Lanka is embarking on transformative labour reforms and progressive initiatives, focusing on critical areas like unemployment insurance, maternity benefits, workplace injuries, and health.
Wimalaweera and the delegation had the opportunity to meet briefly with B.P.J.S. Ketenagakerjaan President and Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo. The meeting was particularly opportune as today also marks the customer day of B.P.J.S. Ketenagakerjaan. On this day, directors actively engage in customer service, attending to members and beneficiaries at various service stations.
B.P.J.S. Ketenagakerjaan, formerly B.P.J.S. Jamsostek, is a public legal entity transformed into a Social Security Agency responsible for a comprehensive suite of social security programs. These programs include Employment Injury security, Death security, Old Age Security, Unemployment security, and Pension security.
The Sri Lankan delegation includes Officials from the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment, The Commissioner General of Labour, Members of certain trade unions and The Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC).
This collaborative visit aims to strengthen the bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, fostering a sharing of knowledge and best practices in labour and social security.
