President Secretary Saman Ekanayake
President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake said yesterday that President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s goal is to establish long-lasting reconciliation in Sri Lanka now, instead of passing on the task to the next generation.
The Secretary to the President pointed out that it is essential to resolve the issues related to the reconciliation process, and that if this effort is successful, there will be no necessity for the country to go before the Unite Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva for another year.
He made these remarks at a civil society awareness discussion on the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism held at the Presidential Secretariat under the chairmanship of Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry.
The President’s Media Division said the Foreign Minister during the meeting explained the objectives of the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism, and the role of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was also discussed at length. Secretary Saman Ekanayake also sought the views and suggestions of the members of civil society organisations who were present and requested their support to achieve the objectives of establishing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He emphasised that the agreement and support of all citizens is required to move forward as a country.
