Lionel Fernando no more

Former top civil servant and diplomat Lionel Fernando passed away on Saturday.

He has held the offices of Media, Tourism and Aviation Ministry Secretary, Foreign Ministry Secretary, Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Netherlands, France, Austria (and a few other countries), and North Eastern Province Governor. 

He was also the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) associated to the UNO Executive Council Chairman, and Ceylon Shipping Corporation and Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Chairman among others. He was also a Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry adviser. 

His remains will lie at the Jayarathna Respect Home (VIP Parlour) from 9 a.m. today and cremation will be at 5:30 p.m. at the New Crematorium (Entrance Kitulwatta Road).
