Calls on Govt. to stop mass-scale land clearing

Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK) Batticaloa district MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam urged the Government to take prompt action to stop mass-scale land clearing in Batticaloa.

Rasamanickam in a message on his ‘X’ account says that the large-scale deforestation and encroachment of forest land in Batticaloa had been an issue that he raised for the entirety of his first term as a Parliamentarian.

“It is disturbing to note that it is happening at an accelerated speed under the new Government as well. A man named ‘Alex’, who claims to be the NPP Organiser for the Paddiruppu electorate, has called and threatened the Divisional Secretary who visited the site on a fact-finding mission,” he says.

Rasamanickam said that he hopes this illegal activity would not be tolerated by the Government.
