MPs named to COPE, COPA

  • Deputy Speaker announces nominees to two Parliamentary Oversight Committees
  • Decisions on who will head each committee will be made at first meeting

 

Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday announced the names of MPs nominated to serve on the two Parliamentary Oversight Committees, the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) and Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE).

Both Government and Opposition MPs serve on the Committees with the ruling side having a majority in the 22-member committees. The MPs nominated to COPE are Mahinda Amaraweera, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abegunawardena, Sarath Weerasekera, Jayantha Samaraweera, D.V. Chanaka, Indika Anuruddha Herath, Nalaka Godahewa, Rauff Hakeem, Susil Premajayantha, Anura Dissanayaka, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Jagath Pushpakumara, Dr. Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramarathne, Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, S.M. Marikkar, Premnath C. Dolawatte, Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam, Madhura Withanage, Sagara Kariyawasam and Charitha Herath.

The MPs nominated to COPA are Udaya Gammanpila, Duminda Dissanayake, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Shehan Semasinghe, Prasanna Ranaweera, Tissa Attanayake, Tissa Vitarana, Harin Fernando, Niroshan Perera, Ashok Abeysinghe, Buddhika Pathirana, K. Kader Masthan, Mohomad Muzammil, Sivagnanam Shritharan, Hesha Withanage, Upul Galappaththi, B.Y.G. Rathnasekara, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Ranjith Bandara and Harini Amarasuriya.

At the first meeting of the Committees, the members will elect one among them to be the Chairperson.

Prior to the prorogation of Parliament, COPE was chaired by SLPP MP Charitha  Herath and COPA by National List MP Tissa Vitarana.

The Deputy Speaker also announced the names of those who will serve in  several other Parliament committees including the Legislative Standing Committee, Committee On Ethics, Committee on Standing Orders and the Backbenchers Committee.
