Former President Maithripala Sirisena has urged for an international inquiry into the 2019 Easter Sunday attack in light of new revelations presented in a documentary by Channel 4.
Sirisena said that the documentary unveils the actual events behind the attack, which differ from the initial claims made at the time.
“In reality, what transpired significantly deviates from the initial claims. I endured nearly four years of harassment related to the bombings. Even court decisions were handed down against me,” he said. Sirisena said he would soon write to the United Nations and meet with the UN Resident Coordinator to raise his concerns. “I will meet with the UN Resident Coordinator after completing the communique relating to the Channel 4 expose,” he noted.
“As proposed by the UN, I too call for an international investigation into the attack,” Sirisena added.
