Maithri’s Easter Sunday statement – Courts call for CID action on any criminal wrongdoing

Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe the statement provided by former President Maithripala Sirisena regarding the Easter attack and to take necessary measures if any criminal wrongdoing is revealed.

The order regarding Maithripala Sirisena’s statement on the Easter attack was issued during the latest hearing of the case at the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

A supplementary report on the ongoing investigation progress by the CID was submitted when the case was brought before the court. The CID informed the court that they are concurrently investigating complaints filed by MP Kavinda Jayawardena and Jana Aragala Vyaparaya concerning this incident. The case is to be taken up again on June 26.
