Government Minister Manusha Nanayakkara yesterday assured the public the Government is not seeking to prohibit or regulate social media platforms in Sri Lanka.
Addressing a public gathering in Galle, the Minister of Labour claimed the Government merely wants those who use social media to bear the responsibility for what they choose to post.
He asserted that requiring individuals to have an identity while using social media and holding them accountable for their statements is not an effort to restrict freedom of speech or regulate social media. “We are solely advocating for responsible use of social media,” he emphasised.
